The Cataract and Refractive Surgery Fellowship (CRSF) program at Grewal Eye Institute is a unique combination of Clinical rotation and Surgical training.

Objective

The objective of this program is to train ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and management of corneal diseases and cataract surgery through:

  • Clinical evaluation.
  • Use interpretation and application of different investigative procedures.
  • Medical management.
  • Surgical intervention.

At the end of fellowship you will be able to do...

Workup of Cataract & Refractive Surgery cases.

  • Proficient in decision making for choice of surgery.
  • Understand basics of various Cataract Surgery techniques and refractive surgery procedures with confidence.

One Year.

Course Design

Basic Orientation: Emphasise in first month will be to strengthen the skills in clinical examination and basic diagnostics, and to acquaint with the principles, EMR and guidelines being followed at the institute.

Clinical and Surgical Rotation: During this period the fellow would be rotated within the sub specialty with the entire faculty. At the same time they will also be trained extensively in Cataract surgery techniques.

Besides working with guidance of faculty candidate also have an opportunity to perform surgeries independently, and follow up on surgical cases.

Clinical Diagnositcs

Slit Lamp, Keratometry, Biomicrocsopy, Pachymetry, Specular Microscopy, A - B Scan, Tear Film function tests, Pentacam, Photogrpahy, Biometry and Markerless Toric surgery.

Microsurgical Techniques

  • Phacoemulsification and Cataract Surgery
The Cataract surgery training will be imparted for a specific period in the training OR and the other surgeries are taught during the posting with faculty.

Training in the use of Laser Equipment

  • Nd: YAG capsulotomy
  • Nd: YAG membranotomy
  • Excimer laser PRK

Training in Contact Lens

  • Contact lens fitting
  • Management of contact lens related complications

Fellow at the Institute will be doing outreach program duties as and when required.

Stipend

6000 INR for first 6 months and 8000 INR for next 6 months.

Prerequisites and Educational Qualification

  • MS/MD/DNB in Ophthalmology, qualifying by June 2016.
  • Age less than 33 years.
  • Registered with MCI as an Ophthalmologist.

Intake

Batch starts in July every year.
